Seminars

In conjunction with industry service & equipment providers, I.A.T.S.E. Local 667 organizes a number of seminars throughout the year to allow the I.A.T.S.E. Local 667 membership the opportunity to learn new skills and/or equipment, or to refresh or enhance their skills. We try to schedule these seminars during times when production has slowed down in order to optimize attendance and availability for all interested members.

For the past few years, annual one-day seminars have been held at rental houses offering intensive training on all the camera systems (i.e. Arriflex, Aaton, Moviecam, and Panavision). Special seminars that range from HDTV, Vista Vision to other specialty equipment have been offered.

In keeping with the latest technology, we have added HDTV Assisting to our curriculum and are now developing a seminar for HDTV Technicians. An HDTV information session for Producers, Directors, ADs and Production Managers is being developed.

In the past we arranged for tours at the Kodak plant, film processing labs and post-production facilities, and this will be continued into the future.

Currently we are developing seminars for PACE and Hydroflex (underwater camera housing systems).

In addition we are currently in the planning stages of designing 2 other new workshops:

  • The first workshop will be geared to Camera Assistants which will be a very intensive camera testing workshop, covering such topics as camera registration and lens resolution tests
  • The second workshop will be an information session geared to Producers & Production Managers outlining procedures and protocol involved in camera and lens testing

The Camera Trainee program has been revised and enhanced over the years. Currently we have added to the program an instructional clinic on Darkroom Procedures which will be held at scheduled intervals for Trainees who are on their 4th to 6th placement. This will be followed at a later date by a mandatory session on Darkroom Procedures & Mag Loading and must be scheduled prior to upgrading to 2nd Assistant.

Through our Member Assistance Program we are coordinating Wellness Seminars that will include stress management, balancing work and home, identifying substance abuse and it's effects on everyone.
